hades canon divergencies:
demeter wasn’t overbearing of persephone, but overprotective. as her daughter is half-mortal, she bleeds red, just like zagreus does. persephone’s mortality takes a huge toll on demeter, especially after her father’s death. afraid of loneliness and losing what she holds dear, demeter desperately tried to keep her daughter safe.the eternal winter wasn’t caused by demeter voluntarily nor was it an act of vengeance. the weather is under her control, but it also follows her emotions. the winter took hold as her own heart grew cold, following her wherever she went when searching for her daughter. by the time she realised what was happening, she was no longer able to stop it.the only place that is not touched by the eternal winter is the hill persephone’s house stood on because that’s the only place demeter didn’t search through, unable to find it beneath nyx’s cloak of magicthe excuse persephone created to appease her mother’s anger - that she was in the underworld all along, because she fell in love with hades, did not make her feel better at all. if anything, it deepened her guiilt and despair, because her own daughter did not trust her enough to tell her she has fallen in love and that she even had a child. she starts thinking of herself as a terrible mother following these events.
